Shelterbelt Farm

Shelterbelt Farm focuses on animal and soil health, using regenerative agriculture practices to produce sheep, beef, ducks, and chickens to renovate old pastures, build soil organic matter, and produce tasty products for sale. We feed non-GMO grain to our poultry, but sheep and beef are 100% grass-fed and grass-finished.

Lamb

$7.00/lb HCW. This is the weight at the butcher, after head, hide, and internal organs have been removed. The take-home weight of the meat you get is around 65-70% of the hanging weight. We will accept payment in installments; please talk to us to make arrangements.

Our lambs are raised solely on their mother's milk, hay, and organically-managed pasture. Whole or half lambs are available in the Fall, but reserve ASAP as we expect to sell out before then. For a typical whole lamb with a hanging weight of around 45-60 lbs, depending on what cuts you want, you could expect a take-home weight of 33-45 lbs. The cost for this whole lamb would be $292 – 390, which could be paid in 2 installments.

Chicken

$5.50/lb for whole frozen chicken

We raise Freedom Ranger broiler chickens, which are hearty foragers that take a few more weeks to size up than the more common Cornish Rock Cross breed. They eat only certified organic grain ration and whatever plants and bugs they forage from our pastures.

Beef
